Singer, Song-Writer & Producer Collin “DeMarco” Edwards, born in 1982 in Portmore, St. Catherine, Jamaica, represents the refined cream of a modern crop of Jamaica’s most skilled and talented music practitioners. He embodies a new age of cutting-edge artists whose ability to intertwine song writing, music production, engineering and performing, as well as his capacity to fuse these skills seamlessly between Dancehall, Roots Reggae, Hip Hop and R&B, make him in constant demand in one role or another. DeMarco started as a producer at the young age of 15, sometimes writing lyrics over his riddims. He decided to go perform live at a local Jamaican club one night and his career as a performer began.
DeMarco recently signed to KonLive Records founded by Akon, who tops the 2017 list of richest African musicians according to Forbes Africa and known for launching the careers of superstars Lady Gaga and T-Pain says of DeMarco: "He is a serious artist with a proven track record and an electrifying stage presence." He toured the UK with Akon on the hugely successful “Konvict Kartel” Tour in 2017 and many of the shows were sold-out as fans clamored for a chance to see these mega stars live.
One search on Youtube demonstrates DeMarco’s popularity as his hit video “Puppy Tails” has over 27 Million Views. His Instagram boasts 263K followers as well.
He has been making a name for himself for over a decade as a Singer, recording with many of today’s top talent including: Shaggy; Busy Signal; Akon; Runtown; Lexy Panterra; Kymani Marley; Bunji Garlin; Beenie Man; Collie Buddz; Christopher Martin; Sizzla; Etana; Tarrus Riley; Elephant Man
Demarco has also been behind some of dancehall’s most notable hits as a producer as well. His first hit rhythm, “Side Walk University”, featured tracks like “Beyonce Whine” by Vybz Kartel, in addition to tracks from Tony Matterhorn, Sean Paul and Collie Buddz. Another notable mention is Demarco’s specially blended rhythm, the “Mission rhythm”, for Baby G, which features Stephen and Damian Marley. This rhythm also featured Movado with “On The Rock” with Rapper Jay-Z. He has a very long track record of successful hits as a singer and producer. Reggae/Dancehall’s top act Sean Paul has experienced his production skills, Busy Signal, Bounty Killer and others have put vocals to his cutting lyrics, it’s no wonder Demarco’s youthful brilliance and creative ingenuity is achieving the recognition it deserves.
Growing up dancehall music was king, DeMarco shares, "Dancehall music made me popular but I'm all about diversity, I love writing and performing any kind of music from all genres such as Afro beats, EDM, international music, fusion, tropical house, and hip-hop."
Adding to his unique style is a global influence due to touring extensively; including multiple visits to Africa, performing in Ethiopia, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, , and Guinea. He’s also toured in Canada, USA, Seychelles, UK, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Haiti, Dubai, Israel, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Trinidad, Barbados, Bahamas, St. Lucia, Virgin Islands, St. Kitts, Antigua, & more.
Demarco’s skills were born and cultivated in high school where he and a group of friends created a school based sound system called the “Future Disco”, where spinning beats and mixing them increased his musical curiosity and instinct.
Soon thereafter, he migrated to Baltimore, where a close friend further expanded his musical horizons by teaching him the various elements of music making and it was there Demarco learned how to use the keyboard, sequence rhythms and use drum machines to build Rap, R&B and Dancehall rhythms. With his hard work and determination, it wasn’t long before word spread quickly about his skills and talents and it was then that a mutual friend introduced him to Star Kutt Music, who almost immediately signed him.
With Star Kutt Music, Demarco’s work load and reputation exploded onto the scene, landing him jobs with some of Hip Hop’s leading artists. He has made numerous beats alongside The Soul Diggaz, who were signed to Missy Elliot and were involved in the production of three of her albums, he was also featured on Foxy Brown’s album. His musical exploits caught the right ears, and after listening to his work, executives at E1 Entertainment, formerly Koch Records approached him and signed a three album deal through his Star Kutt Records imprint. E1 was also home to international artists like Ray J, Jim Jones, DJ Khaled, Foxy Brown and many more.
He is now among a team of stars at Akon’s KonLive Label and with his level of musical capability in so many areas of music, Demarco is sure to be a shining star, blazing for years to come.
